Our History
In the early 1800s, individual theologians and believing Christians in England and Scotland began praying for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit and for His activity to be as it was in the time of the early Church. In response to their fervent prayers, God, through prophecy, revealed the calling of the first apostles since the death of Apostle John. Continuing in the work of their predecessors, this new group of apostles began to teach and baptize (Matthew 28: 16-20), forgive sins in Christ's name (John 20:23), and dispense the Holy Spirit (Acts 8: 14-17). In 1863, some of the newly called apostles settled in Germany and began the church that would become known as the New Apostolic Church.
The New Apostolic Church USA has been welcoming people through its doors for over 140 years. Beginning in Chicago, Manhattan, and Buffalo, the first congregations began and were nurtured both by evangelizing ministers and immigrant members from Europe, as well as by the local people who embraced their message and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. On the heels of these first three openings, other congregations were established from the East Coast, through the Great Lakes, and all the way to the West Coast. In the generations to follow, the first congregations have grown and branched out to comprise over 200 locations nationwide. Today, the New Apostolic Church continues to welcome people from all walks of life who are looking for a vibrant, purposeful life in Christ.
